It’s been less than a week since I released my Friend Zone mixtape… here’s another one… You know, come to think of it, this is really fucking easy in comparison to what actually pays me… I mean, you hit play, you have an idea of what direction you want to go in the mix… and you just go.
I’ve been sitting on quite a few of these tracks for some time now, so on the way home from work I figured… why not. Fire up the knobs and get crackin’. And here we are, a couple hours of its inception… waiting for my shit to upload.
Comments on this mix… bleh. I gave a dry run before I hit record this time… so I guess it doesn’t really count as a rough mix anymore, does it? I mean, I sat there and stared at the track name while it was playing and thought of what would go with it… and if it didn’t I’d stop it, go back, and think of something else… but I haven’t… oh fuck it. Thoughts at this time of night usually just go off on tangents.
Back to this mix: I decided to give it an abrupt switch towards the end; I’ve been listening to a gargantuan amount of Doomtree lately, and when I found P.O.S. did a track for BNR, I went bonkers and immediately clicked buy. Eh.
So after all this superfluous babble, you can listen on Mixcloud in exchange for (pick one):
- a rub n’ tug with Catherine Zeta-Jones
- 8-month supply of Pretz, or
- a simple click: http://i.mixcloud.com/CBSaii
And for those willing to sacrifice your precious bandwidth, here’s the download link from Mediafire (the government knows where you live. OHSHI-):
Enjoy and share 🙂
Oh Jesus, WordPress automatically does that emoticon. Everything sucks.
Good morning all,
I told you a little while back of my little side series of mixes… and here’s another one.
This one is quite the party track.. I’ve also included a bit of bro-house in this, seeing as how there has yet to be a party where I’m spinning at and there isn’t a bro just having a wicked time.
Well, there really isn’t much to preface this mix with… I drop Felix Cartal twice… I picked up his Different Faces album last week, and well, I was quite impressed with it. Him and TAI are basically the only reason I still bother with Dim Mak… I’ve moved on… I miss the old Pase Rock days…
Yeah… you can listen on Mixcloud: http://www.mixcloud.com/silentwires/friend-zone/
Or take it to go (5 cents per plastic bag, please): http://www.mediafire.com/?qbjioo0dss0int3
So, in light of my new DJ controller, I’ve decided to do some rough mixes on top of the infrequent studio mixes.
I guess, it’s just more fun to hit play and see what comes to mind, then mix it.
So… yeah. It’s a “sub-category” if you will of mixes. You’ll hear that the transitions are a little more rushed and/or forced. That’s due to the fact that either:
- I’ve never heard the track before
- I haven’t studied it enough to remember the timings, or
- I’m just too drunk.
So with that in mind, these rough mixes will be pushed out more frequently than you’d be used to. You’ll also see tracks repeated from previous mixtapes, as it is impromptu. And emphasis on “rough mixing,” in which you’ll notice where I screwed up counting the beats in one transition, and the other couple times where the beatmapper just plain effed it up and put a 128 bpm track as an 85. Oh, what a novice I am…
And with that we head on to the Mixcloud link:
And for those who want take out:
And the tracklist:
- Frenchie – Fait Accompli (John Daly Remix)
- Laura Jones – Loves In Me (Eats Everything Loving You ReWork)
- Circuit Freq, Audrey Napoleon – This Is Fucking Techno (Dataworx Remix)
- Chromeo – Hot Mess (Djedjotronic Remix 2)
- Sei A – Jus Appreciate
- Make the Girl Dance – Kill Me (The Toxic Avenger Remix)
- Eclier – Hole (Marseille Remix)
- Felix Cartal – The Joker
- Fake Blood – Mars
- Ado – The Ultra
- Mr. Oizo – Oral Sax
- Gesaffelstein – Opr
P.S. Why label the series Zoning By-laws?
Well, you see, once you get into the mood and everything just flows nicely together, and your impromptu set turns out to be one wicked time, you kinda want to share it with people. It’s your element, you’re on fire. You’re in the danger zone. It’s your zone. No one knows what’s in store when you peak. And as Kanye inadequately put it, “Don’ let me git in mah zone…”
And….fuck that guy.
It’s time, right about that time…
I’ve finished another mixtape, and this one’s a doozy.
These are mostly new tracks, and well, what can I say? The latter half of 2011 turned out really well for dance music. How it turned out was nothing like my original intended track list.
I’m already a solid 20 minutes in to my next mix, and it’s a little… well… unconventional. Think less DJ set and more mixtape.
But back to Acme Whorl. I’ve been meaning to drop Toxie’s remix of Spaceship for AGES, only able to do it in those rough impromptu live sets… but I’ve finally done it.
I won’t apologize for dropping Audrey Napoleon. Yes, it’s a little douche-y; yes it was used as a promo track for Heineken, but dude, it’s a bumpin’ track, and… well… I would. In a scene where it’s mostly dudes behind the deck, it’s great to see a woman work those knobs (no innuendo intended).
I’m still waiting for Volatile’s Retaliation EP to come out, that’s definitely going into my next mix. I took a look at my most recent purchases and downloads, and well, it’s almost all from Turbo, Mako, Boys Noize, and Lektroluv… they’re cranking out some sweet tunes and artists that I’ve previously overlooked are making some great material. I’m sticking with this for a while now…
So yeah, many more to come.

I’ve finished another mix, and well… I don’t have too much to say about this one.
I like it.
It starts off extremely house-y. And then it eventually gets to the hard-hitters.
I’ve become more on the tech house side as of late…and less of that that electro house sound.
It’s just that it’s become OH SO popular and the majority of artists have churned out tracks that try to be catchy or those “club hits.” And I’m not about that at all.
Another thing happening to electro house is the same thing that happened to dubstep. It’s the brostep equivalent to it, and quite frankly, it’s just plain annoying. And this is coming from a guy who goes nuts over the brutal tracks. I think of it as bro-house. As heavy as possible, sacrificing eloquence or coherence, with the breakdown and build consisting of this smarmy, commercial-sounding melody.
And then I found out complextro was actually a thing. I almost got infuriated. BLARGH. I mustn’t get into it. Just know that it’s messy music and you won’t hear it from me; the closest thing to complextro I’d drop would be The S.
I’ve uploaded the mix to Mixcloud, it seemed easier for those who want to just hit play and listen, rather than download THEN listen. A Mediafire link is also available for those who want to take it on the go.
I’ve got another mix that’s 95% finished, and this one is a banger. Oh, I’m happy with it.
So, here’s to Core Values:

Well kids, after a 5 months hiatus, I’ve finished another mix.
Dear AA batteries, it’s a tight one.
I’ve literally been working on this one for about 3 months, so things are well thought out. So, after almost half a year of combing through blogs, removing my ChemicalJump bookmark, going on multiple hater rants, and almost $100 on Beatport later, I’ve got this whammy.
Another good thing I’ve discovered through the course of all this is the French label Dga Fäu, which I’m keeping an eye on.
I’ve also caved and dropped Bart B More. Oh frigid ice cubes, what have I done… next thing you know, I’m dropping Swedish House Mafia…for REAL.
I’m working on my all-Beetroots mix, but it is taking a while because I’ve either:
a) gotten way too distracted
b) too drunk to focus, or
c) a wicked flashback (which only happened once, though)
But in regards to this mix, it’s got the flow of Porcelain Artillery, but with the oomph of Monotonous Spectra.
And fuck intros, I’ve got no time nor patience to comb through films and lectures to find shit I can sample.

Alright, enjoy, while I splooge on something else…
All righty, here’s mixtape number 13…
For some weird reason, the number 13 always sends this awkward pulse in my mind… not that I’m superstitious or anything, this is just one of those factors that suggest it. Anyways, it’s fucking stupid and I thought I needed to express it in words.
About this mix:
It’s got a slower feel to it. It starts off fairly tech-y, as I wanted to shy away from the new electro house being splattered over the internet. But, given my love for the genre two years ago, I end up transitioning it to another party mix… but it does end off a little on the groovy side.
Blah. It also is quite rushed. Rushed as in there are a few transitions that just…bleh. But to find the “perfect” track…I just end up getting annoyed at how many tracks just suck.
And as a side note, half of this is actually a live mix. Might as well use my USB turntable/controller more often.
Like Dada Life. I’ve yet to hear something from them that I like. And other artists that start to disappoint me, like Felix Cartal. His Joker EP was pretty good, but his Solar EP with Keatch….blah.
OOOOOOOk. Enough with the useless banter. Let’s get on with the track listing.
